Legally Recognized Weddings

A Civil Wedding is an Official, legally binding marriage in Mexico, that is valid in your home country.

In Mexico, only civil marriages are legally recognized. To be legally married in Mexico, a couple must have a civil ceremony performed by an officer of the Civil Registry. Therefore, a "civil marriage" in Mexico inherently means it is the "official" and legal marriage. There isn't a separate category of "unofficial civil" marriages

To ensure your marriage in Mexico is legally recognized, here are the essential documents and steps for both parties:

  • Valid Passports: Current passports for both, bride and groom.

  • Passport Copies: A photocopy of both passports.

  • Witnesses: You'll need four witnesses, along with one copy of each of their passports. *(Ask about this)
