A Civil Wedding is an Official, legally binding marriage in Mexico, that is valid in your home country.
In Mexico, only civil marriages are legally recognized. To be legally married in Mexico, a couple must have a civil ceremony performed by an officer of the Civil Registry. Therefore, a "civil marriage" in Mexico inherently means it is the "official" and legal marriage. There isn't a separate category of "unofficial civil" marriages
Basic Requirements for a Legally Binding Civil Marriage in Mexico
To ensure your marriage in Mexico is legally recognized, here are the essential documents and steps for both parties:

Valid Passports: Current passports for both, bride and groom.

New Requirement for Civil Marriages in Cancun Mexico.
As of right now, all couples wishing to get legally married in Mexico, whether Mexican citizens or foreigners, must meet a new requirement: proving they have no outstanding child support obligations in Mexico.
To obtain the required "Certificate of No Outstanding Child Support Obligations," the Civil Registry will check its database. If no issues are found, the certificate is issued, allowing your marriage application to proceed.
IMPORTANT: This process must be initiated at least 4 weeks before your wedding date to ensure the certificate is ready in time to submit your Wedding Application. Let us handle all the paperwork and legalities for your civil wedding!
